This week’s
scripture is Jesus teaching us in the Gospel written by the disciple Luke.who was a Dentist by trade.
Luke, chapter 15:4-7,
Luke, chapter 15:4-7,
“What man of you, having a hundred
sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open
country, and go after the one that is lost until he finds it? And when he has
found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he
calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me,
for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ Just so, I tell you, there will be
more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous
persons who need no repentance."
The great
shepherd God is described here in a parable by Jesus to his audience. Though he
has 99 sheep that are safe
(spiritually), he will not rest to find the one sinner that is lost in the
wilderness. And the one who is tired and lost, God the father easily carries
the sinner back under his full care (Grace) on his shoulders to safety. The
father could choose to make the lost soul walk back home on his or her own, but
God being a loving and merciful God loves to carry us through the dark and lost
periods of our lives, and rejoices doing so. And by the way, those that rejoice
with him are his angels in heaven, and the saints in his church. Friend, are
you letting God carry you back home to a life that pleases him?
