Scriptures Weekly 11 - Counterfeit Christianity

This is a multi-part reading this week because it is such an important subject.

"Counterfeit Christianity"

Did you know that Christianity is a taught religion? And did you know there are now over 38,000 different church movements today? One does not learn error and, at the same time, obey the truth. Many if not most churches have taught incorrect gospels, and many have sincerely, though erroneously, been led to believe that a false doctrine (teaching) is genuine Christianity.

 2 Peter 2:1-2,

"But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute."

And the Apostle Paul says in Galatians 1:6-7,

"I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ."

2 Thessalonians 2:10-12,

"...and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness."

So, what does the seeker do?

2 John 1:8-11,

"Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward. Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works."

And...

2 Timothy 2:15,

"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

Scriptures Weekly 10 - Jesus our Mediator

Have you thought about how and why you may be separated from God? And how you can again be in his favor? Or maybe you are searching for God the very first time in your life.

The scripture readings this week has the apostle Paul and John explaining the way we in our sinful nature can have 'a relationship' with the perfect sinless God. The important key is concerning Jesus Christ being our advocate, our mediator, our go-between us, and God the Father.

1 Timothy 2:3-6,

"This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time."

And,

1 John 2:1-2,

"My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world."

Scriptures Weekly 9 - God Always Cares

This week’s scripture is Jesus teaching us in the Gospel written by the disciple Luke.who was a Dentist by trade.

Luke, chapter 15:4-7,

“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance."

The great shepherd God is described here in a parable by Jesus to his audience. Though he has 99 sheep  that are safe (spiritually), he will not rest to find the one sinner that is lost in the wilderness. And the one who is tired and lost, God the father easily carries the sinner back under his full care (Grace) on his shoulders to safety. The father could choose to make the lost soul walk back home on his or her own, but God being a loving and merciful God loves to carry us through the dark and lost periods of our lives, and rejoices doing so. And by the way, those that rejoice with him are his angels in heaven, and the saints in his church. Friend, are you letting God carry you back home to a life that pleases him?

Scriptures Weekly 8 - Correction by the Scriptures

Welcome to Scriptures Weekly.

2 Timothy 3:16-17,

"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."

This weeks scripture pertains to the holy scriptures being God breathed to mankind by the Holy Spirit for teaching, training and correction. Its this topic of being corrected by the scriptures we often have a difficult time implementing into our daily lives and walk with God. The bible is our instruction book on how to live a godly life that pleases God to where he will then reward us with the prize of heaven and eternal life with him. After all, isn't this the core reason why we seek God in the first place? We want to go to heaven...

Scriptures Weekly 7 - Love One Another

Welcome to week 7 of Scriptures Weekly. Here we have one of the greatest verbal expressions of love by Jesus Christ to his disciples, and to us today. An important lesson to learn here is that whatever we ask for in His name needs to be according to His will, not ours. So often God is blamed for not delivering the goods we need. That's because our asking must come from a pure heart and an obedient and patient faith.

John 15:9-17,

"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other."

Scriptures Weekly 6 - Belief & Faith

Welcome to Scriptures Weekly. There are signposts pointing the way to Gods existence and activity in the life of people who have faith in Him. This week we will read what God has to say from his Word concerning Belief & Faith. And how we can be sure and confident He is true.  Are you sure about what you believe or don't believe about God?

Romans 1:19-20 : The Evidence

"For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse."

Hebrews 11:1-3: Faith in Creation

"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible."

Believing the Lie

This lesson by Preacher Doug addresses Gods powerful ability to send forth a delusion into the minds of souls who do not believe the truth to be saved.

2 Thessalonians 2:9-13,

"The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth,"

Believing the Lie

It’s important what 1) Church we attend, 2) The things we practice, 3) The things we believe in. If you don’t think that’s the case just re-study 1 Kings 13 and 2 Thess. 2.

God says, “Promise me anything but give me your life.”

“He doesn't want you where you want to be. He wants you where you are.”

We often think being a Christian means having your name on a roll someplace. That has nothing to do with it at all. Membership and attendance are important things. But God says, “Are You Mine?” Do you do what I tell you to do? Do you live your life according to My Word?”

God’s Word is not just being a member of a church and going to service. God talks about being a certain kind of people. He talks about living a certain kind of lifestyle with certain kinds of attitudes and certain kinds of priorities. If anybody tells you it’s easier than that, they are just lying to you. They are selling you a bill of goods!

The biggest Lie:

“I have found certain teachings in the bible that just don’t apply to me.”

Scriptures Weekly 4 - Jesus Our Advocate

Welcome to week 4 of Scriptures Weekly. Here in the gospel written by the Apostle John inspired by Gods Holy Spirit,  Jesus is teaching 2000 years ago as to where He will be in heaven judging the ones He is seeking, as our advocate to Father God. Jesus is who speaks to the Father on our behalf, approving of those who love Him. Why do we go through Jesus, why is the Son of God our advocate?

John 5:18-23,

"Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God. Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will. For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him."

Jesus' Last Will and Testament

Have you ever thought about your last will and testament? I know, its not a desirous thing to record having to make some final decisions about your wishes and instructions to your loved ones. It perpetuates a sense of finality of life and we probably don't want to go there while we are living. But, its an important decision one should make in order to make it easier for the family and named acquaintances to deal with ones property and possessions.

Let me ask you this - Do you think Jesus Christ had a last will and testament, and what did the Messiah state to mankind about it?

By Wayne Jackson - Christian Courier

This is a study of the relationship between the Old and New Testaments of the Bible in Jesus' words explaining His will and Testament instructions to mankind. It explains the transition period between the covenants prior to Christs death on the cross, and afterwards when His infant church was established on the day of Pentecost in Acts chapter 2. This transition period was very swift lasting only 2 weeks in history! I hope you are blessed in learning more about the Masters Will.

Scriptures Weekly 3 - God Provides

This weeks scripture reading is Jesus teaching in Jerusalem. This and many other teachings occurred early in His 3 year ministry on earth. The sum message here is that God the Father provides all that we need.

Matthew 6:25-33,

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

Scriptures Weekly 2 - Jesus God-Man

Welcome to week 2 of 'Scriptures Weekly'. The following scripture is concerning who Jesus Christ is and His pre-existence before being born of the virgin Mary. May you be blessed this week with further knowledge of our Lord and King.

Colossians 1:15-20,

"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross."

Understanding Forgiveness

By Wayne Jackson - Christian Courier

A study lesson on how God views forgiveness with scripture notes and references to help the Christian traveler and the seeker of God.

Scriptures Weekly 1 - Love of Christ

Romans 8:35, 37-39,

"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?"

"Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

May you be blessed

Scriptures Weekly Intro

Welcome to the Scriptures Weekly blog site. We are glad to have you from whatever walk of life you are currently experiencing. Whether a Christian, a non-believer in Jesus Christ and God, or a seeker of God as you currently know Him, we welcome ALL...

This effort began with a weekly text list to a core group of seekers that wanted a weekly dose of Gods word in a simple non-threatening form. Messages include a brief introduction of the scripture text and the text itself. A video or podcast lesson is included for those wishing for a more expository lesson of the scripture as noted. And on this blog, all scriptures are posted in the New King James version.

Invite friends and brothers in Christ as well. Our goal here is to serve a community of seekers of God to explore His Holy Word in a way that shares it in biblical terms and in deeper understanding alike as we grow in the faith glorifying God and His son Jesus Christ in our lives.

Our focus and purpose for this blog is captured with the following scripture:

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."  2 Timothy 3:16

This video lesson will help and encourage you to begin studying your Bible so that you may be able to appropriate Gods will in your life showing yourself to Him approved... May you be blessed.
